Re: Cosplays That I’ve Done (2011-2017)

Standard

So I just finished a really quick fan fiction project recently called Last Waifu Standing. You can read the entire anthology here.

Having said that, there was one section of the series that I really liked (which will probably be the first one I do quick revisions on, because I want it to be perfect), and that’s the two-part arc on “Cosplay OTP.” The premise of those chapters were that I would revisit past cosplays that I have done, roleplay the character I portrayed, and attempt to woo the character’s other half of the One True Pair fall in love with me. Spoiler: they end up giving me thoughtful advice that I may or may not take instead.

Although this was my favorite part to write, something was nagging me: unless you peruse my blog well enough, you wouldn’t have known that I did any of these cosplays! I’ll admit that I do cosplay just for fun, and wear them as conversation pieces to curious fans. But if I must draw attention to myself somehow, I might as well bring these up.

So without further ado, I will showcase each one that was featured in the ‘fic (and then some) right here. Right now!

“Tadaima” from Anime Expo 2017

Standard

Hey everyone! I’m back from Anime Expo 2017, and as a staffer who had spent an entire 6 days there from June 29 through July 4, it’s been quite busy!

This is my third year on staff, so if you were there and stopped by the Ticketing Office at some point, you probably saw me in one of the featured costumes shown here!

AX2017-cover

Some of these are repeat cosplays I’ve worn at past conventions, namely Prof. Shūichi Ginkgo of my very own Professor Ginkgo Chronicles (far left) and Umetarō Nozaki of Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun (far right). But the newest to the lineup is the yukata (center left) that my family got me a couple months ago, and Osamu Mikumo of World Trigger (center right) that sadly I couldn’t wear last year because it came through the mail exactly a day after AX2016 ended (just my luck)! Well not this time!

Anime Review: World Trigger

Standard

Contrary to trending anime, this series takes a refreshing look at shōnen titles. And while the animation is very choppy, it makes up for it with a very complex story that challenges the popular concepts found in bildungsromans. We love countless stories about a boy hero from humble beginnings who becomes the guy that the people can count on. But along the way, he must face many trials where he is likely to fail, get tempted by the enemy, or realize just how far he is from the final goal. But where other heroes overcome these adversities by strength, World Trigger‘s heroes overcome their adversities by something else: their intellect.

There are a lot of elements to cover in this entertaining series, that I won’t be able to cover all of them. I will get to my main focus as part of this month’s theme on when determination is not enough, with a dash of humor. So in the spirit of all kinds of tropes made by this series alone, Trigger on, make your best duck face, and let’s raise the glasses population!

Great Moments in Summer 2015 Anime

Standard

Summer is over, and that means no more lazy days for some of us (yeah, I know). But before I start preparing for other things including the Fall anime season, let’s revisit some of the moments that came from a handful of anime from this past season.

This highlight review’s theme is Hero, thanks to this season’s Ushio and Tora.

Obligatory disclaimer: these are the great moments of the season, not necessarily the greatest moments of the season. These moments come from a limited list of things that I watched and does not include everything that aired in Summer 2015. You can find all of these anime and more on Crunchyroll.

And as always, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!
