5th Year Anniversary: My Favorite Anime Reviews!

Standard

Hello my readers!

Please excuse my absence. Between getting sick, working on obligatory family things around the holidays, and still looking for work, I completely ignored my own 5-year anniversary on the 31st of December! Sorry I’m late!

Of all the side projects that I have done, I never would have thought that anime reviews would be the one thing that I would like to do most on this site. Well it’s the one thing that gets the most traffic on this site anyway, never mind my fan fictions and philosophical musings that I also do!

If there is anything that I have learned from being a largely ignored WordPress user who hypocritically doesn’t do anything to get people to notice him, it’s that you will only get attention on the Internet if you talk about stuff that everyone else is talking about, or you space out your content with pictures that grabs users’ attentions. And yes, while that is definitely a skill that I don’t have as a writer, I am just about as stubborn as every other critic out there who believes that my opinion needs to be heard, rather than appease the audience!

But enough ranting.

Lystria’s Favorite Anime of 2017

Standard

Hello my readers!

So it has just occurred to me that in my 5 years of running this blog, I have yet to ever post a rankings for my favorite anime of every year! And I have to ask myself: why have I been evading this topic? I literally do a list on my personal Facebook account for my friends to see every year, only for them to either ignore or slam all of my choices– oooohhh…

So here’s the deal. As 2017 comes to a close, I will publish my list of my 14 favorite anime that have aired some time this year. Why 14? Because 14’s my favorite number. No other reason. Bear in mind, these are my choices, and I respect that your top favorites are going to be different from mine. You’ll probably notice that I haven’t reviewed a lot of these yet, and that’s fine. They’re on my to do list. Think of this following list as a series of mini-reviews to tide you over before I take a much larger glance at some of these gems. You can find all of these and more on Crunchyroll!

Without further ado, these are my picks for my favorite anime of 2017!

“Tadaima” from Anime Expo 2017

Standard

Hey everyone! I’m back from Anime Expo 2017, and as a staffer who had spent an entire 6 days there from June 29 through July 4, it’s been quite busy!

This is my third year on staff, so if you were there and stopped by the Ticketing Office at some point, you probably saw me in one of the featured costumes shown here!

AX2017-cover

Some of these are repeat cosplays I’ve worn at past conventions, namely Prof. Shūichi Ginkgo of my very own Professor Ginkgo Chronicles (far left) and Umetarō Nozaki of Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun (far right). But the newest to the lineup is the yukata (center left) that my family got me a couple months ago, and Osamu Mikumo of World Trigger (center right) that sadly I couldn’t wear last year because it came through the mail exactly a day after AX2016 ended (just my luck)! Well not this time!

Funny Moments of Spring 2016 Anime

Standard

It’s that time of the anime season again, where everything is wrapping up! And while I regret not taking part in the Winter 2016 season, I am relaxed enough to share some of my favorite moments from Spring.

The following moments are some of my favorite funny moments, but not necessarily the funniest moments of Spring 2016 anime. This is also narrowed down from a list of things that I watched during the season. You can find all of these and more on Crunchyroll.

The theme that I chose for these moments is Let’s Talk (話をしよう), thanks to this season’s Rin-ne! For the heavier side of this season, check out my Great Moments of Spring 2016 Anime!

And as always, there will be SPOILERS!

Anime Review: Non Non Biyori Repeat

Standard

So technically I have already reviewed this series before. If you want to know what to expect out of this series, go ahead and read that. I suppose this is a sequel series, but Non Non Biyori is situational, meaning that each episode stands on its own as a mini-story. The events of Non Non Biyori Repeat actually take  place alongside the first season, not continuing from them!

I don’t always express favoritism or distaste in my reviews, as I absolutely abhor using rating systems for the purpose of discussion. But even so, this is among my most favorite anime series of all time.

I won’t try to convince you to watch it simply by explaining it. So instead, I will be sharing with you some of my favorite moments from Non Non Biyori Repeat, in the style of the highlights I used to do on this blog, which I will continue as the Spring 2016 season comes to a close (woohoo)! Note that these are only a handful of moments I enjoyed from this series and does not include moments from the first season. There are plenty more where that came from. These are 20 great (and funny) moments of Non Non Biyori Repeat!
