Once again, emphasis on “MY” Fall 2013 simulcasts. All shows are brought to you by Crunchyroll. All shows here are ones I’m watching for this season only. Continuing simulcasts that I watch are NOT included. A time (PDT) when the simulcast comes out is also included. Times are subject to change when daylight savings time ends.

Shows are listed in alphabetical order by their romanji titles.

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: ARS Nova

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: ARS Nova

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: ARS Nova (Mondays, 12:25 PDT)

An anthropomorphic series about a future where the world’s sea level rises and alien battleships threaten much of the world’s ports. And yet in this madness, one of these battleships befriends a sailor-in-training, causing them both to become rogues of each of their sides. Can these two change the fate of planet earth together?

Diamond no Ace

Diamond no Ace

Diamond no Ace (Saturdays, 17:30 PDT)

No, this doesn’t have to do with decks of playing cards. As the cover shows, it’s about baseball. High school baseball, at that. And the importance of team play in the sport. Not much else I can say about it, other than I’m trying to watch it.

Galilei Donna

Galilei Donna

Galilei Donna (Thursdays, 11:00 PDT)

The Ferrari sisters are descendants of Galileo Galilei, the Renaissance scientist who discovered various principles in modern science, including gravity, space telescopes, and a piece of secret technology called the “Galilei Donna!” Despite being three very different sisters, the protagonists of the year 2061 have one thing they share with Galileo: their will to defy much of the status quo!

Gingitsune

Gingitsune

Gingitsune (Sundays, 10:05 PDT)

My personally most anticipated show for this season, Gingitsune is about a young priestess (or oracle) who befriends the guardian of her shrine Gintaro, a giant fox creature whom only she can see! Through good and bad times, the two friends come together in a heart-warming series as they solve others’ problems with magic and spiritualism.

Golden Time

Golden Time

Golden Time (Thursdays, 12:30 PDT)

Adapted from several sources, including a manga, a novel, and a TV drama, Golden Time is a coming of age series about a college student and his meeting with two very odd friends: an heiress with a obsession over some childhood friend, and the childhood friend who does everything he can to avoid her! This is one of the most anticipated romantic comedies, and it sure as hell is hilarious!

Kill La Kill

Kill La Kill

Kill La Kill (Thursdays, 11:30 PDT)

This is one of several martial arts series I’m watching this season, about a girl who seeks revenge for her father, a man who was killed by a half-scissor blade. Now wielding this deadly weapon, Ryuko Matoi seeks answers at a high school hell bent on turning their students into killing machines. This series is brought to you by the same makers of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann!

Kyoukai no Kanata

Kyoukai no Kanata

Kyoukai no Kanata (Wednesdays, 9:30 PDT)

Another one of my personally anticipated series (as well as everyone else’s, it seems) an immortal half-human-youma is paired with a spirit warrior meganekko (girl with glasses)! The girl, Mirai Kuriyama is the last of her clan, a group of spirit warriors who uses their own blood as a source of their weaponry. Yet despite the action-like feel to this series, this anime belongs in the slice of life category, as Mirai challenges her status quo to live a normal human life. Can she find balance between being a spirit warrior and a regular human?

Log Horizon

Log Horizon

Log Horizon (Saturdays, 4:30 PDT)

Another anime to add to the collection of virtual reality video game animes, Log Horizon brings us to the world of Elder Tale. When this online game releases a new expansion, players find themselves trapped in the video game and learn to hone their abilities by instinct rather than my pressing commands! And yet in this charade, a team of guildless players fight their way to the top in order to survive. Sword Art Online, much? Similar, but not in this universe!

Magi: the Kingdom of Magic

Magi: the Kingdom of Magic

Magi: the Kingdom of Magic (Sundays, 2:30 PDT)

Magi’s third season (if you count The Labyrinth of Magic as two seasons) returns where they left off. Sinbad’s kingdom celebrates with a successful dungeon capture by Alibaba’s friends, when Aladdin asks of a humble request. The young magi seeks to go on a journey by himself to understand what it truly means to be a magi in this world of Kings and Dungeons. What wisdom will he find?

Meganebu!

Meganebu!

Meganebu! (Sundays, 9:00 PDT)

I admit, I’m a guy watching a really bizarre shoujo series. Meganebu, literally Glasses Club in Japanese, is a comedy about a high school club’s attempt at creating perverse glasses that allow one to see through any clothing… with extremely stupid and shounen-ai distractions along the way. If you’re a girl, you’re probably screaming with delight. If you’re a guy, you’re probably looking at me thinking “EEEEHHH!?”

Also, if I somehow DO manage to find guys to cosplay as the Meganebu crew, I call dibs on the president. Also we should sing the a cappella catch tunes that play throughout the show, too!

Miss Monochrome

Miss Monochrome

Miss Monochrome (Tuesdays, 11:00 PDT)

The only short series I’m watching this season, Miss Monochrome is an android idol (probably a parody on vocaloids) who aspires to become a super idol. Her trials and tribulations, however, keep her from actually being one! Poor Monochrome…

Nagi no Asukara

Nagi no Asukara

Nagi no Asukara (Thursdays, 8:00 PDT)

A classic tale of starcrossed lovers, this anime brings together the people of the sea with the people of the surface. Both sides absolutely despise each other, despite the fact the local middle school under the sea closed down, forcing four of its remaining students to attend school on the land. And yet, one girl challenges the status quo as she becomes fascinated with a fisherman’s son. Inspired by the Japanese folktale of Ofunehiki, this anime is a story of young love and bridging a gap between communities.

Non Non Biyori

Non Non Biyori

Non Non Biyori (Mondays, 13:05 PDT)

A situational comedy in the most unlikely of places: the Japanese countryside! Join four schoolgirls (and a silenced schoolboy), each of a different grade, who attend the only classroom in the only school in the entire village. Fun times to be had, no?

"NouCome"

“NouCome”

Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru (Wednesdays, 11:00 PDT)

No, not repeating that long title! “My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with My School Romantic Comedy” (NouCome, for short) features a high school guy who has one strange ability (or curse): he must always make choices that relate to that of choices in visual novels! Yet despite the bizarre choices he often gets in reality, one choice changes his life forever when he decides a girlfriend will fall from the sky! Not sure what to make of this show yet, but it’s got some slapstick funny moments.

Outbreak Company

Outbreak Company

Outbreak Company (Saturdays, 20:00 PDT)

Not many jobs require the knowledge an otaku has stored in his head, but where they are needed, it can be found in a parallel universe that the nation of Japan has discovered! Watch as an otaku teaches an entire culture the greatest gift Japan has to offer: Japanese Pop Culture Entertainment! (Note: this is not necessarily my opinion, just the show’s, perhaps)

Samurai Flamenco

Samurai Flamenco

Samurai Flamenco (Thursdays, 10:30 PDT)

Our protagonist in this anime is a modern day superhero, one who fights evil and defends justice. The only problem is, the evildoers are all in his head! This anime take on similar stories like Don Quixote is satirical, funny, and perhaps sympathetic to the heroes we can only remember from days gone by.

Strike the Blood

Strike the Blood

Strike the Blood (Fridays, 11:00 PDT)

The third of my martial arts-related series for this season, Strike the Blood takes place on a manmade island south of Tokyo where demons thrive and are detained by the government. Yet in this charade, one human is transformed into a vampire while his middle school friend is a demon slayer that wields a collapsible lance! Can this unlikely duo keep the evil that surrounds their neighborhood at bay?

Walkure Romanze

Walkure Romanze

Walkure Romanze (Sundays, 9:30 PDT)

This sport anime ventures into a very esoteric game: jousting! As seen by the poster, all these lovely ladies are high school girls in a knights program that specializes in jousting tournaments. As you can also guess, there is a lot of panty shots to be had. If you are a minor or a woman who doesn’t like to see such crass nonsense, watch at your own risk.

Yowamushi Pedal

Yowamushi Pedal

Yowamushi Pedal (Mondays, 11:00 PDT)

What happens when a second-rate pursuit athlete meets a scrawny otaku that seems to beat him at his own sport? An odd couple of friends, or unlikely rivals? Watch as the jocks join the nerds on the road and in the anime club room in Yowamushi Pedal!

"Yushi-bu"

“Yushi-bu”

Yuusha ni narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita (Fridays, 11:00 PDT)

Imagine a world where you, an aspiring hero, are no longer needed in society because mankind’s greatest enemies have now all been smitten. Gotta find a new career, right? Now imagine that the spawn of your former greatest enemy is now your coworker. “I Couldn’t be a Hero, so I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job” is an adult comedy where all of these situations unfold!
